What is calculated while you type
Once the volume flows, temperatures and humidities of both sides are entered, the “Derived values” panel shows the dew point, enthalpy, humidity ratio, density and mass flow of each side. It also shows the sensible duty: the sensible heat that would pass over at complete heat recovery. This is a reference value, not the duty of the unit.
If the dew point of the warm medium lies above the inlet temperature of the cold one, condensate is to be expected; if the cold medium is below 0 °C, it can freeze. In both cases the panel shows a note.
For process gas the panel shows the density and mass flow of each side. All panel values are guidance; only the selection is binding.
What you need to enter
In the first step, for both sides: the medium, the volume flow at standard or operating conditions, the inlet temperature and, for air, the relative humidity, plus the installation altitude. Besides air, natural gas flue gas, nitrogen and CO₂ are available as templates; any other gas mixture is entered as a composition in vol. % or wt. %.
In the second step only the permitted pressure drop per side is required. Heat recovery, space envelope and material narrow the selection further and may be left empty.
How the selection is calculated
After you send the request, the server works through every permissible combination of design, material and casing width and checks each one against your limits. The calculation assumes an insert unit without bypass. If you need a bypass and damper or a flange frame for duct connection, note it in the “Application” field in the last step.
